Buenos Aires Lights Up for Christmas

Buenos Aires, Dec 8 (NA) — With the lighting of the Christmas tree and a musical show in front of the Obelisk, the city began to celebrate the spirit of the holidays for the third consecutive year. Starting this Monday, Buenos Aires will be illuminated for Christmas on its main avenues, historical sites, and in each of its 15 communes, confirmed to Noticias Argentinas agency. “This red button is going to catch fire and a beautiful light will come out,” started actor and singer Fernando Dente, who hosted the colorful and musical event: there was a countdown from 10 to 0 and everything lit up. To press the button, four children from city schools were chosen for their effort and dedication: Santiago Sepliarsky, Tiziano Vega, Nayara Gutiérrez and Sofía Muñoz. And with everything lit up, Fer Dente capped it off with a great musical moment, singing with a choir “Navidad, Navidad” and another one: “Papá Noel llegó a la Ciudad”. Then came the closing with the AfroSound Gospel Choir to wish “Merry Christmas”. Additionally, the BA Verde at Plaza de la República was dressed for the party, along with light sculptures and a nativity scene, and a mapping was projected onto the Obelisk, which will also be replicated next Wednesday, December 24, from 9:00 PM to 2:00 AM. The Christmas celebration in the city includes a Christmas Walk with a light garden at Plaza Sicilia in Palermo, a Christmas market, and symphony shows with classical pieces. Furthermore, other plazas will have proposals, workshops, and shows for children to have fun, and the open-air shopping centers and city's gastronomic markets will offer activities, raffles, and discounts. All programming is available on the city's website: www.buenosaires.gob.ar/NavidadEnLaCiudad. “We want this Christmas to find us gathered and united. The holidays are a time to value and be thankful for the good things: family, friends, affections, all the positive things that do us good, that help us to always move forward and make us strong to face the great challenges we always have,” said Head of Government, Jorge Macri. Until Wednesday, January 7, 2026, plazas, parks, avenues, and shopping centers of the 15 communes will be illuminated. As every year, the initiative seeks to beautify public space and offer residents and tourists a unique visual experience through emblematic trees, garlands, and more than a thousand light ornaments. “December is synonymous with celebrations, meetings, and festivities; we accompany by decorating with Christmas ornaments and Christmas trees the most important streets and squares of the City, it is one of the loveliest times of the year,” said Ignacio Baistrocchi, Minister of Public Space and Urban Hygiene.
